NEW YORK - They tramp into the smoke and dust, a legion of volunteer laborers wearing hard hats and tool belts and thick-soled boots. Hours later they walk out again, looking for fresh gloves and dry socks, or a sandwich, which they eat standing up. They crave food, and batteries.
NEVILLE ISLAND, Pa. - Faced with rising unemployment nationwide, President Bush vowed Monday to work tirelessly to create jobs and called on Congress to approve legislation that he said would put hundreds of thousands of Americans back to work.
SOUTH LONG LAKE - Joseph James Wolfe, age 95, 50-year resident of South Long Lake, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at his home. Joseph was born on May 18, 1912, in Logan County, N.D., to Joseph and Maggie (Gerhart) Wolfe. He married Virginia Frymier on Feb. 12, 1955.
CROSBY - Irven O. Rood, age 85, of Crosby, died on Aug. 21, 2010, at Aicota Nursing Home in Aitkin.
LITTLE FALLS - Adolph O. Slettom, 86, Little Falls, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at home.
