KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- NASCAR Sprint Cup points leader Greg Biffle realizes that fans sometimes get bored during races when there are long stretches of green-flag racing, with very few cautions to bunch up the field. Last week's Samsung Mobile 500 at Texas Motor Speedway was a perfect example, with only two cautions (both for debris) in the 501-mile event and none over the final 234 laps. Biffle, who beat Jimmie Johnson by 3.235 seconds to get his first win of the season, just wishes that fans could see things from his vantage point behind the wheel.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Martin Truex Jr. had the dominant car in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup STP 400, leading 173 of 267 laps at Kansas Speedway. But Denny Hamlin stayed within striking distance and pounced when Truex had problems late in the race, posting his first victory at Kansas and second of the year in front of approximately 75,000 fans. "It felt a lot like Phoenix (his other 2012 win) in the sense of we kind of hung around in the top five all day and at the end we just kind of made our charge, make our run,'' said Hamlin, who won the 19th Sprint Cup race of his career.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Martin Truex Jr. was openly disappointed after Sunday's second-place finish in the NASCAR Sprint Cup STP 400, his sixth finish of seventh or better in eight races without a win. But Truex also realizes that the close calls are a sign of how far the No. 56 Toyota and Michael Waltrip Racing have come. "To sit here and be disappointed with second place is saying something for us,'' said Truex, who is now second in points, 15 behind Greg Biffle. "(I'm) just looking forward to coming back to the racetrack next week.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points leader Carl Edwards, who hails from nearby Columbia, Mo., gives Kansas Speedway credit for jump-starting his career."It was the opportunity that Mike Mittler gave me here at Kansas in his (No.) 63 truck in 2002 and we ran eighth, which was a huge day,'' Edwards said. "That kind of got things rolling, so to speak, in my career.''Edwards followed that up with a truck win at Kansas in 2004 and was in the Sprint Cup Series by the end of that season.
