ALEXANDRIA - Two people involved in a shootout with a Douglas County sheriff's deputy before they were found dead near here on Monday were from Fargo, the Ramsey County Medical Examiner said. Katie Ray Christopherson, 29, and Devin Blowers, 24, both died of gunshot wounds, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said in a release. The last known addresses for Christopherson and Blowers were in Fargo. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner has ruled Blowers death a suicide by gunshot and Christopherson's death was ruled a homicide.
PARK RAPIDS - A Menahga man has been arrested in the death of a 19-year-old woman Monday morning at a Park Rapids apartment complex. Harley David Leritz, 21, was taken into custody Monday and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday on charges relating to the death of Kiela Knowles at the Park Rapids Middle School apartments. The Hubbard County Sheriff's Department is assisting Park Rapids police with the investigation. Hubbard County Sheriff Cory Aukes said he could not give out any information about the case.
ALEXANDRIA - A Douglas County Sheriff's deputy was shot and two suspects were found dead Monday night in an incident that began with a report of a suspicious vehicle. The sheriff's office received a call about the vehicle at 9:17 p.m. Monday. A deputy responded and made contact with the two people inside the vehicle near Alexandria. One of the occupants fired a gun at the deputy, striking him in the chest, according to the sheriff's office. The deputy returned fire and the suspects drove away.
ST. PAUL - A man who was fatally shot by four officers after a high-speed car chase in Eden Prairie last week held a knife on the officers and refused to put it down, according to the state agency conducting an internal investigation of the case. After officers shot the man, the woman with him picked up the knife and was shot as well, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said Wednesday. The agency released several other details in the harrowing Feb. 7 chase, which shut down U.S. 212 for much of the day.
The 29-year-old Pine River man - who killed Mark Huesmann in 2012, burning and dismembering his body before burying him - was sentenced Thursday in Cass County Court to serve the statutory maximum of 40 years in prison.

EMBARRASS, Minn. -- A 54-year-old Embarrass woman was found dead Tuesday morning. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at 1:40 a.m. about an unresponsive woman lying on the ground in a driveway in Embarrass. Julie Janice Juniel, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said in a statement that they do not believe this was the result of violence.
