Eldon Grater, of Brainerd, died Sept. 9, 2004, at his home. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
Eldon George Grater was born Oct. 5, 1931, in Manhattan, Kan., to Fred and Caroline (Weidner) Grater. He grew up and graduated high school in Riley, Kan. He enlisted in the Navy and served overseas from 1951-1954, during the Korean conflict. He was united in marriage to Barbara Pikula in Brainerd June 7, 1958. After living in St. Louis, Mo., for a time, the couple moved to Brainerd, where Eldon worked as a millwright at Potlatch for 34 years. Eldon was a family man, who loved spending time with his grandkids. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports and "tinkering." He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He coached youth baseball in Brainerd for 21 years and was a member of the American Legion.
