We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks

Opens Friday, May 24, 2013 Synopsis: Acclaimed documentarian Alex Gibney (Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room) takes the reins for this no-holds-barred look at one of the most unusual phenomena of early 21st century media. In 2006, an Iceland-based outfit called The Sunshine Press launched the website WikiLeaks.org. As run by Australian Internet activist Julian Assange, the site's mandate involved regularly publishing top-secret documents and covert information, often regarding governments and their respective military operations. As might be expected, this set off a firestorm between those who admired the organization's bravado and resourcefulness, and those who argued, not unjustly, that the dissemination of data regarding such events as the U.S. war in Afghanistan could put untold numbers of lives at risk. In We Steal Secrets, Gibney relays the story of the WikiLeaks website from the inside, and moves beyond black and white to penetrate a complex network of activity guided by courage and idealism but also allegedly guilty of ethical insensitivity and hypocrisy. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi Cast: Julian Assange, Bradley Manning, James Ball Movie Details Play Trailer Buy Tickets Movie Review

When identity theft puts their lives savings at risk, the couple track down the man (Michael Nyqvist) they believe is responsible for the crime. Meanwhile, an introverted teenage goth (Jonah Bobo) becomes the victim of a humiliating prank when his two biggest tormentors pose as the girl he likes, and trick him into exposing his true identity online. When the prank leads to tragedy, the young victim's mother (Davis) is overwhelmed by grief as her husband (Bateman) explodes with rage. Later, an ambitious TV reporter's quest to expose an online prostitution racket has unexpected repercussions for the frightened young man at the center of the growing controversy. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi Cast: Jason Bateman, Hope Davis, Frank Grillo, Michael Nyqvist, Paula Patton Movie Details Play Trailer Buy Tickets Movie Review

Black Rock

Now Playing Synopsis: Three women on a camping trip find their fireside bonding interrupted by a group of psychotic veterans in this survival thriller from writer Mark Duplass and his wife, first-time director Katie Aselton (who also stars). As young girls, Sarah (Kate Bosworth), Lou (Lake Bell), and Abby (director Aselton) used to spend much of their spare time on a secluded island just off the coast of Maine. Years later, Lou and Abby have grown estranged after the former slept with the latter's boyfriend, and Sarah hopes to see them reconnect by taking a nostalgic trip to their favorite childhood haunt. As dusk falls, the ladies encounter an old classmate named Henry (Will Bouvier) trekking through the woods with his friends Derek (Jay Paulson) and Alex (Anslem Richardson). Armed with rifles, the men reveal they are on a hunting trip after returning from their tours of duty in the Middle East. Later, as the two groups gather around a fire for dinner, the booze begins to flow, and Abby's inhibitions fall away. Before long, Abby and Henry are all over each other. But the situation turns critical when Henry gets too rough, and Abby accidentally kills him while attempting to break free. Upon learning that their brother in arms is dead, Derek and Alex vow that the women won't get out of the woods alive, setting the stage for a bloody life-or-death struggle between the battle-hardened soldiers, and the terrified female trio. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi Cast: Kate Bosworth, Lake Bell, Katie Aselton, Will Bouvier, Jay Paulson, Anslem Richardson Movie Details Play Trailer Buy Tickets Movie Review
